From the 1st January 2018, the SEAI furthered its electric vehicle adoption strategy by introducing a €600 grant towards the purchase and installation of an Electric Vehicle home charging station.

The grant applies to private owners who purchase a Battery Electric Vehicle or Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicle from 2018 onwards. The vehicle may be new or second hand bought according to this time period.

The EV must be parked on an off-street location attached to the applicant's home. The charger iteslf must be connected to the fuse board of the home of the applicant. The property may not be attached to a previous EV charging station grant offer.

Under this scheme, charging unit brands are not specified, they must simply comply with certain safety directives as listed. The SEAI has published a detailed step by step guide explaining the process - it is very important not to undertake the installation until a letter of offer has been received.
